Hello, my dear students. Brazil's most popular sport is Football (or Soccer). We all know that because everybody has a favorite team and is always talking about it with friends and family. Our national champiionship is starting on Saturday, May 10th, and I thought it would be interesting if we could learn a little more about this great sport. Go ahead and read this short text about it and don't forget to post your comments, okay?

Association football, commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players, and is widely considered to be the most popular sport in the world.[1][2][3][4][5] It is a football variant played on a rectangular grass or artificial turf field, with a goal at each of the short ends. The object of the game is to score by manoeuvring the ball into the opposing goal. In general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to use their hands or arms to propel the ball; the rest of the team usually use their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso or head to intercept a ball in midair. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time and/or a penalty shootout, depending on the format of the competition.

Teacher Maurício

Dear students,

It's always nice to organize events and have new objectives in our classes... When my big friend Alessandro suggested that we helped him with the presentation of the songs in English in our Cultural week, I thought it would be difficult to convice my four groups to participate. Well, on the next day, I talked to my students and guess what: everybody looked right back at me and said: what do we have to do and how can we help?

I still remember the first day I brought my drumset and everybody sang the songs with the guitar students. After some minutes, I could feel students' energy! It was great to have all of you envolved in such a nice project...

After some time only rehearsing in our classroom, we decided to have a new challenge: why not test the real place? Let's take everything to the place of the event and see what we can do... And so we did. I brought a camara along and could take some very nice pictures...

Hello, everyone!

Today I'd like to register something really nice my students from 4th grade did. Actually, it was teacher Claudia's students (4th grade H). It was a great idea... Check it out!

This is the picture of the exhibition we had in September about professions. It was their idea to illustrate the vocabulary - doctor, pilot, ballet dancer, firefighter, soccer player, teacher, musician - by bringing these beautiful well-built toy cities.

See you next time!

Teacher Maurício.

Pets are great fun!

Hello, everyone!

Well, today I'd like to dedicate this entry to a furry black friend of mine. His name is Max and he's a Labrador Retriever, and he loves to play and eat!

Everyone in my family loves him very much  and we can see that he loves us too...

Did you guys know that pets are used in hospitals for treating sick people? Doctors have found out that touching, playing and talking with animals make patients happier and more optimistics towards their treatments, providing them with better chances of getting healthier.

I was doing some research on the internet the other day and I found this piece of information I'd like to share with you:Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever Breed Standard
General Appearance
The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to function as a retrieving gun dog; the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion. Physical features and mental characteristics should denote a dog bred to perform as an efficient Retriever of game with a stable temperament suitable for a variety of pursuits beyond the hunting environment.

The most distinguishing characteristics of the Labrador Retriever are its short, dense, weather resistant coat; an "otter" tail; a clean-cut head with broad back skull and moderate stop; powerful jaws; and its "kind," friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament.

Above all, a Labrador Retriever must be well balanced, enabling it to move in the show ring or work in the field with little or no effort. The typical Labrador possesses style and quality without over refinement, and substance without lumber or cloddiness. The Labrador is bred primarily as a working gun dog; structure and soundness are of great importance.

Let's write a tall story!

All my sudents from level 2 are trying... The best tall story will be published here, in our blog!

See you in class...

Vacations are always nice... Relaxing at home!

Hello, my dear students... It's been quite a while since my last entry!

A new semester, a brand new chance of fixing things we did wrong during the first half of the year, and continuing whatever it is that we did right!

Let's pray for a second half full of achievements and hard work!

See ya!

Hello, class!

Many teachers, coordinators and students have talked to me over the last week about the cooking class. I never thought it would be such a big hit! All I know is that it's been a really cool experience and I'm sure we'll do it again soon!

As you remember, I brought my camera to class that day and took a few pictures. I've published them at the following address: http://mauricioaleite.fotos.uol.com.br/cooking/slide.html. Please, visit and check out what a nice day it was!

Thank you guys and congratulations!

See you later!

Hello, my dear students!

The recipe for our cooking class has been published in our blog! Isn't that cool?

Remember to bring the right ingredients to class on Monday, okay?

Ingredients

2 1/2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup butter
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup sour cream
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In the microwave or over a double boiler, melt unsweetened chocolate and butter together, stirring occasionally until smooth. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; set aside.  In a medium bowl, beat sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light. Mix in the chocolate mixture until well blended. Stir in the sifted ingredients alternately with sour cream, then mix in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.   Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

The movie I have chosen is SPIDER MAN 2. The questions I've prepared are:

Before the movie:

Would you like to be a superhero? Which one? Why?

What price does a superhero have to pay for being responsible for other people’s lives?

In Brazil, what kind of superhero do we need? Why?

 After the movie:

What’s Peter Parker’s job?

Is he doing well at school?

What problems does he have as a pizza boy?

How many pizzas are there to be delivered?

As a photographer, does Peter Parker like to take pictures of Spider Man?

When he goes home, there are people celebrating a special occasion. What is it and who was there?

In your opinion, is it easy to be a superhero?

Would you use your superpowers to help you on a special personal problem?

If you were him, would you prefer to continue your life as spiderman or would you quit?

Hey, I'm not a big bubble... Maybe a small one!

Anyway... I was just thinking what a nice surprise for my groups I could prepare this week, and I came up with this idea: we could have the first video activity next class!

I could bring one of my DVDs, we could watch a scene or two and discuss the language they use on the screen!

Well, I'll do that. See you guys tomorrow, for the first video activity of the year!

Bye!
